How do I qualify for entry to the UK?
Recent changes to immgration procedures mean that International students now have a more streamlined route to studying in the UK.The Immigration rules for persons seeking to enter or remain in the United Kingdom as a student(Tier 4) now clearly state that you must:
Be able to prove that you have accepted VISA letter from the Approved Education Provider
To apply as a student under Tier- 4, you must have an Approval Education Provider. All Education Providers (University & College) who want to provide courses need a license from the UK Border Agency. Once they get a license, they are added to the tier-4 register of sponsors.
Be able to show that the course is full time
- A recognized full time degree course at a Approval Education Provider
- A week day full time course involving attendance at a single institution for a minimum of 20 hours organized day time study per week of a single subject, or directly related subjects
Do I need the Visa letter
Yes. Your approval education provider will give you a visa letter which is an official and Unconditional offer of a place on a course of study. Your visa letter must be issued no more than six months before you apply. The date you are applying means the date you submit your application.
How can I check whether my education Provider has the license with UK Border Agency?

Be able to meet the maintenance of funds (costs of your course, accommodation and general maintenance of yourself and any dependants without taking employment or engaging in business recourse to public funds)
The money you need to show covers your course fees for the first year of study and living costs for up to a maximum of nine months. The amount you will need depends on whether you are applying as student. Your money must be held in cash, bonds, pension funds, and similar savings accounts will not be accepted
You must show that you have the money for at least 28 days prior to the date of application.
How to calculate overseas money
If you are suing overseas currency, we will expect you to show the closing balance in pounds sterling. You can use the official exchange rate on the OANDA website, which can be found at www.oanda.com/convert/classic.
How much fund I have to show?
Based on the amount of money (funds) you need on the calculations of British Council
£800 per month if you are living in London
£600 per month if you are living outside London. The proof of availability of money that can be as
- Cash in an account in your name (this includes joint accounts with your name) or
- A loan in your name or
- Official financial or government sponsorship
Will I be able to work as a student (Tier4) in the UK?
Students on courses of more than six months are usually allowed to work part time up to twenty hours a week during term-time and full time during vacations. To meet UK Immigration requirements, however, you must show that you can pay your course fees and living expenses without working in the UK (see the Immigration Rules quoted above) and you cannot therefore expect to finance your studies in this way. It is not easy to find suitable work. Students on course of six months or less may ask to be allowed to work, but this is at the discretion of the Immigration Officer/ECO, and re- member, you must show that you can pay for your course fees expenses without needing to work.
